On Wednesday, 29 September, international teachers and national Learning Facilitators (LFs) attended a workshop on how to conduct Running Record Tests.
Chaired by Grade 4 & 5 Phase Leader Billy Heron, this workshop taught teachers and LFs how to accurately record student reading using Running Record symbols and marking conventions. Teachers and LFs learned how to analyse the data in order to effectively chart students’ PM Reading levels. The PM Reading Programme is one of the largest and most finely levelled reading programmes, with a pedagogically sound, proven approach to making every child a successful, balanced reader.
The Running Record test works alongside the PM Reading Programme as an assessment tool which provides an insight into a student’s reading as it is happening. It provides information on the following:
· A score of word reading accuracy
· An analysis of a reader's errors and self-corrections
· An analysis of the reading strategies used.
Through this workshop, teachers and LFs improved their skills and ability to accurately assess student English proficiency. This was achieved through a combination of professional discussion alongside practical, hands-on practice. Teachers enjoyed working alongside their colleagues, utilising each others strengths and experiences to ensure the deepest level of understanding.
HDSH is dedicated to providing the highest-quality instruction and assessment to its students. Thanks again to Mr. Heron for hosting this workshop!
